Brewin Dolphin
Can you create a whole garden from tiny pieces
of slate?
Our brief to create a garden that had heritage as its starting point but that showed confidence in the future was an important part of our brief from Brewin Dolphin. Taking 5 months we cut 42,500 pieces of slate by hand using a simple guillotine. This material provided the surface for huge floating platforms that would hover above fragile hedgerow plantings and garden escapee’s creating a space that looked loose and romantic but bold and exciting. An underground stream was lit up at midday by sunlight passing through a hole in the slate canopy and shining in to the well below.
