Can a show garden be hidden from view?

Our idea for Linkaters’ garden for Maggie’s was to turn the show garden through 180degrees. We wanted to create a truly secret garden, one that provided sanctuary, surprise and helped communicate the important story about how Maggie’s helps people living with cancer. Our idea of using a single material and limited volume to build the garden further added to the narrative. A cube of concrete could be hollowed out and broken apart to create shelters, steps, water features and benches and like a jigsaw puzzle could all fit back together again. This became a metaphor for a life blown apart by a cancer diagnosis.
