Cliff Top Garden for Arts and Crafts House
South Hams
How do you establish a garden with little top soil overlooking the sea and exposed to the wind on all sides?
Working with Devon based architects Harrison Sutton we designed a garden that made the exposed rock and lack of boundary the hero. Planting had to take place in areas where we’d built up ground or were able to break out stone enough to create planting pockets. Garden walls were all built using rock dug from the site, informal hedging and windbreaks were created using Teucrium, Quercus, Ilex and Eleagnus Quicksilver and yorkstone paving surround the house.
